Open Budget Session Begins
An open budget
was declared where people of Union Parishad were present for the
first time in Jessore. Democracywatch organized this event under
the People's Reporting Center (PRC) project, which funded by DANIDA.
On 7th July
at 10:30 a.m. Chairman of Ramnagar union Advocate Afzal Hossain
of Jessore declared the yearly budget of UP in front of people at
Ramnagar union for the first time. He said that, participation of
people in this process was valuable and for the sake of transparency
and accountability every chairman of Union Parishad should take
this type of initiative.

Executive Director of Democracywatch, Lars Iskjaer, Program Coordinator
of Human Rights and Good Governance Program Support Unit, Danida
and Hossain Shahid Sumon, program officer of DANIDA, HRGG-PSU, were
present on this occasion.

Executive Director of Democracywatch said that the local people
should empower their own Union Parishad by paying the taxes to the
Union Parishad in due time.

Sumon, Program Officer of Danida, HRGG-PSU said in his speech that
in order to establish democracy, transparency and accountability;
the UP representatives should consult with the local people and
involve the local people in every activities by mass participation.

Program Coordinator of Human Rights and Good Governance Program
Support Unit, Danida said this type of program should be arranged
in every Union Parishad. He thanked the Ramnagar Union Parishad
chairman for declaring budget in front of the local people.
